Love your enemies.

Todays post is going to come from Matthew 5:38-48 " You have heard that it was said,'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, don't stand up against an evil person. If someone slaps you on the right cheek, then turn and let him slap the other cheek too. If someone wants to sue you in court and take your shirt, then let him have your coat too. If a soldier forces you to go with him one mile, then go with him two miles. If a person asks you for something, then give it to him. Don't refuse to give a person who wants to borrow from you." I'm gonna stop here and talk a little bit about what we are being asked to do. He is asking us to instead of turning from those who are evil we are called to love them. When I read this in my mind I was thinking ok God do you understand what you are asking me to do? If someone hates me I still need to love them and give them more than they deserve? WHO WOULD EVER DO THAT? But isn't that what Jesus did for us? I remember back to my past when so many times I slapped God right across the face, and he offered me the other cheek. Or when I hated him so much but yet he still gave and gave to me. We are supposed to love like Christ although it isn't easy when the world hates us at times Jesus said " If the world hates you keep in mind they hated me first" John 15:18 Which goes great into continuing in Matthew 5 starting at 43 " You have heard that it was said, ' Love your neighbor and hate your enemies. But I tell you, love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you. If you do this, then you will be true sons of your Father in heaven. Your father causes the sun to rise on good people and on bad people. Your father sends rain to those who do good and to those who do wrong. If you love only the people who love you, then you will get no reward. Even the tax collectors do that. And if you are nice only to your friends, then you are no better than other people. Even people without God are nice to their friends. So you must be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." This really made me step back and think, I am a Christ follower but am I loving my enemies like I should? This scripture says even people without God are nice to their friends. I am with God and I still don't step out of my comfort zone to love those that maybe sometimes arent the easiest to love. But God calls us to do just that, and your reward will be great if you start to love your enemies like christ loves.
